This edition of Otherworldly Ambiguity exists within the more experimental/ambient realms of sound.

Otherworldly ambiguity is the phenomenon of liminality, occupying the spaces in between and outside of pre-existing concepts and rigid categories. By embracing our ambiguous condition, we are entranced by boundaryless identities and ways of being. The dance floor becomes the site of embracing one’s otherworldliness and hybridity through movement and community.

1) Club Drippy is the amorphous moniker of Jon Jon, Chicago native and co-founder of electronic powerhouse Pixel Grip. Taking inspiration from sweaty raves, the natural world, and queer freedom, Club Drippy absorbs and reflects his experiences through producing, DJing, and writing.

On the dancefloor, Drippy presents his curation with elements of synthpop, industrial, new beat, and italo for an eclectic listening experience.

In addition to his work with Pixel Grip, Drippy has self-released Made of Silk (2020) and Blue Beats (2024) as original ambient techno explorations.

2) Bone Study is a live experimental artist based in Chicago with original, surrealist productions.

3) Shanti has made textured waves in Chicago’s techno scene with her curation of dark, sinister, and ethereal soundscapes. Music has always been a means of coping with the otherness and hybridity Shanti experienced throughout her life. She has been deeply moved by the transcendent ability of music to express concepts, states of consciousness, and conflicting emotions. Shanti’s sets weave a story of the simultaneous despair and yearning that are intertwined with the human condition and illustrate an intentional trajectory through combining and cultivating surreal, atmospheric, and haunting sounds.

Enamored by the liminal dynamics of sound, she cohosts Otherworldly Ambiguity with Scum.ee - an experience that is centered around the phenomenon of existing in between and outside of pre-existing concepts and rigid categories. She is also a member of techno collective Research & Development and hosts a monthly radio show, “Liminal Radio” on WIIT 88.9 FM featuring thoughtful artists at the core of Chicago’s underground music scene.

4) Scum.ee's journey into music is a story of evolution and exploration. He was first captivated by the energetic, upbeat rhythms of the Chicago house scene, but his heart was always drawn to the deeper, more mysterious realms. As he immersed himself in dark techno, the moody and hypnotic sounds resonated with his desire to explore the unknown. He currently gravitates towards surreal frequencies that cross boundaries and induce listeners into a state of trance. As one half of Evanti alongside Shanti, his performances span a range of styles, reflecting his ever-evolving musical vision.
